Friday at Coachella
Hello Seahorse on the Main Stage. Very Florence and the Machince, the Mexican pop quartet got a strong crowd considering they were one of the first bands on, in the middle of the day, in the desert. The lead singer Denise had some serious lung power- probably the reason the band have supported the likes of The Beastie Boys, Jarvis Cocker and The Killers. Definetly worth checking out if you’re into your indie-pop, and/or powerfully lunged ladies.
Honey Honey in the Mojave tent. The male/female duo that make up Honey Honey, supported by their band of merry touring men, sounded like Mumford and Sons in cowboy boots. Not really what I take in my tea, but you can hear that the L.A folkies are very good at what they do. I particularly liked that they shared the vocals throughout their set, with neither of them coming across as the lead singer- they sang together.
GIVERS again in Mojave. They were pretty good- really strong crowd reaction is all I wrote down when I was scribbling notes so that’s all I really have to go on. They did this song; that’s why we stayed. I’m sure you’ll know it-

If you don’t, it may or may not have been in Glee. And I promise, I only know that because it came up in google when I was looking for it. Really cheery, upbead music that makes you want to dance. Probably the exact reasons it was used in Glee…
And finally, the last of our Friday afternoon slot, before we went back for a nap-
Yuck. Their album has been sitting in my car for months, and I’ve only listened once or twice. After seeing them live, the first thing I did when I got back in the car was put their album in. It’s pretty dang good. Bringing back the grungey, “we don’t care, here’s out music” vibe, they did just that; stood and played their music. Check them out FO SHO! Get away was the one I recognised (thanks to BBC R1 playlisting it a couple of months back!) so start there and ease yourself in.
